Joseph Bednarek
Senior Director of Global Grantmaking, Global Fund for Children
Joseph Bednarek is the Senior Director of Global Grantmaking at the Global Fund for Children, bringing expertise in global grant administration and program management. He holds a Master of Arts from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University. At the Global Fund for Children, Joseph manages systems and operations for global grantmaking, ensuring effective processes and procedures for due diligence and risk mitigation are in place. He reviews grant recommendations for funding and monitors the allocation of restricted funding for grants and non-grant deliverables. His responsibilities include overseeing the regional program team`s annual investment and grantee partnership exit plans, serving as the primary administrator for the GIFTS database, and analyzing program outcome data to prepare reports on investment effectiveness. Joseph also engages with peer grantmakers to share best practices and improve processes. He contributes to collaborative efforts in the field to elevate and fund critical issues affecting children and youth. His work history includes serving as Director and Education Programs Manager at IREX, where he also held roles as Program Manager and Program Coordinator for the Edmund S. Muskie Fellowship Program. These roles involved program development and coordination within the international exchange and education sectors. Earlier in his career, Joseph contributed to community development as a Community Development Facilitator with the Peace Corps. His background demonstrates a commitment to international development and community empowerment, supported by knowledge of grant administration and program management.
